Nature Trails 

Haijainen Trail

Total length: approximately 3.5 km 

The Haijainen nature trail winds through varied terrain in the beautiful forest and rocky areas of Haijainen. Along the trail, there is a lean-to shelter with a campfire site, firewood, and a toilet. The trail may be wet and in rather poor condition at times.

Aurinkokuru Trail

Total length: approximately 6 km (a shorter route is also available) 

Along the Ketunlenkki route (1.4 km), there is a lean-to shelter and a campfire site. Please, bring your own firewood. The Ilveskallio route (1.3 km) has two rest areas.

Vaarjoki Trail

Total length: approximately 3 km 

Along the trail, there is a lean-to shelter and a campfire site with firewood and a toilet. 

Starting point: Soinistentie, before the Hakapelto Chapel, and at the end of Asemiehentie

Luolalanjärvi Trail 

Total length: approximately 3 km 

The trail follows the shoreline of the lake and runs partly through forest. There are two birdwatching towers along the trail. The path may be wet and in rather poor condition at times.

Rantaraitti (Seaside Walkway) Cultural Heritage Trail

A scenic seaside walkway stretching from the foot of Kuparivuori Hill along the shore of the Old Town all the way to Taimo Beach, total length approximately 3.5 km one way.  

Along the route, you’ll find swimming spots, playgrounds, marinas, and beautiful views. The trail begins at the Lane of Love on the Kuparivuori cliffs, offering magnificent sea views.

Aurinkopolku, a heritage trail, streches along the seaside from the Old Town all the way to the Naantali Spa Hotel. Its information boards offer glimpses to the history of Naantali with texts and images. Read more about Aurinkopolku heritage trail

Sports equipment available for rent

City of Naantali offers affordable sports equipment rentals year-round. 

SUP Boards 

SUP boards are available for rent during the summer season at the kiosk by Nunnalahti Beach. The rental price is €8 per hour. Life jackets are also available to borrow from the kiosk. 

SUP boards are rented to individuals aged 18 and over. Please bring a valid ID. The renter’s identity will be verified at the kiosk. The renter is responsible for the SUP board during the rental period. 

Rowboats

Rowboats can be borrowed during the summer season from the kiosk at Nunnalahti Beach. You can collect the key to the boat at the kiosk. The boats are located at the Old Town marina, in front of Restaurant Snickari, at dock spots 11 and 12. Life jackets are also available to borrow from the kiosk.

  • Overnight for fishing (8 PM–8 AM) – €10

Rowboats are rented to individuals aged 18 and over. The renter’s identity will be verified when collecting the key. The renter is responsible for the boat during the rental period.

Museums and Galleries 

Naantali Museum 

Located in the heart of the Old Town, the Naantali Museum consists of two charming wooden buildings that together offer a fascinating glimpse into the town’s rich history. Exhibitions are available in Finnish and Swedish, with partial translations in English. 

  • In the Humppi building, you can explore an archaeological exhibition showcasing the earliest history of Naantali. The display includes excavation finds from the Old Town and the area surrounding the church. Humppi also hosts an annually changing exhibition. 

  • Hiilola is furnished as a late 19th-century bourgeois home. In this peaceful interior, visitors can experience everyday life in a small town of the past. A small exhibition presents the story of Naantali’s historic spa and life in the spa town.

Naantalin Taidehuone Art Gallery

Naantalin Taidehuone is a contemporary art gallery located in the Old Town, near the guest marina. During the summer season, exhibitions change every three weeks, offering a diverse selection of current art. Admission to all exhibitions is free.

Herring Heritage Museum Dikseli and the Mill Museum

Located in the Röölä harbor, the Herring Heritage Museum "Dikseli" and the adjacent Mill Museum offer a fascinating glimpse into the region’s rich fishing and milling traditions. The museum showcases the history of Rymättylä’s herring fleet, particularly the Saukko vessels that operated from the late 1940s until 1975. The Mill Museum, housed in the same historic building, highlights the local milling industry that began in the early 20th century. The museums also feature a small museum shop.

Rymättylä Museum

Rymättylä Museum is located in the former Maskulainen estate’s old main building, near the village center and church of Rymättylä. The museum’s idyllic courtyard features several historical buildings in their original locations, including an 18th-century main house, a traditional loft storehouse, a 19th-century dairy room, a “syytinkitupa” (a dwelling for the elderly generation), and a granary. 

The permanent exhibition offers insight into everyday life in the archipelago and is complemented by a display on Baltic herring seine fishing, housed in the granary. Each summer, the museum also hosts a themed exhibition that changes annually. Free admission.

Kollola Local Heritage House

At Kollola Local Heritage House, the local history and traditions of the Merimasku area are preserved and celebrated. Kollola is a former croft of the Isotalo estate in the Järvensuu village of Merimasku, and it has stood in its current location since at least 1721. In addition to the main residential building, the property includes a sauna and a barn. 

Inside the croft, visitors can explore the cultural and historical belongings of its last residents, Anna and Sakkeus Tuominen. The house also features Merimasku’s first telephone exchange, which operated there until 1945.

Events in Naantali 

The Town Drummer and Evening Vespers, June 1 – August 31

Each summer evening at 7:55pm, the town drummer ("Trumputtaja") appears at the Naantali guest harbor, inviting visitors to listen to the traditional evening vesper played with the trumpet from the church tower. At 8pm, the vespers are played in three directions: first toward Kultaranta, the President’s summer residence; then toward the town; and finally out to sea. This cherished tradition continues every evening until the end of August, offering a moment of calm and reflection as the day turns to night. 

Naantali Music Festival

Midsummer Celebration

On Midsummer’s Eve, the City of Naantali hosts a traditional celebration featuring a festive flag-raising ceremony in the early evening, followed by lively Midsummer dancing. Come and enjoy music and the joyful spirit of this cherished Finnish tradition!  

Unikeonpäivät – Sleepyhead Day, July 27

Held annually on July 27th, Sleepyhead Day is one of Naantali’s most beloved and unique summer traditions. The day begins at 8am with the reveal of the Official National Sleepyhead, who is ceremoniously tossed into the sea at the guest harbor in the Old Town. 

The celebration continues throughout the day with a lively program for all ages, including for example a wake-up parade through the town, live music performances for children and adults and bustling market area with local vendors. The event takes place in Kirkkopuisto Park, along the Naantali waterfront, and throughout the Old Town. Most activities are free of charge. 

Naantali Day, August 23

The history of Naantali dates back to the year 1443, when the Brigittine convent and the town which developed under its authority was granted privileges of a town on August 23rd. Naantali Day celebrates the city and its community spirit with a variety of open-air activities. The day typically features a relaxed park picnic, inviting families and friends to enjoy live music and summer vibes in Kirkkopuisto Park, and a flea market at the market square. The event is free and open to everyone. 

Sunfest Festival

Sunfest brings late summer to life with music, lights, and a festive atmosphere in the heart of Naantali. The event features performances by well-known Finnish artists and bands. 

Lux Gratiae

Held on the last weekend of October, Lux Gratiae is a captivating event that combines various forms of art and light in a unique atmosphere. The program venues are at mainland Naantali and the archipelago. Traditionally, the festival has featured light art installations, art exhibitions, poetry, lectures, concerts, and the annual Pilgrimage Walk of St. James from Naantali Convent Church to Rymättylä Church.
